This fall we completed the redecoration of a double manual harpsichord by Eric Herz. Referencing the Hass instrument currently in the Yale University collection, staff member Ben Martinez executed an elaborate chinoiserie decoration on the interior of the lid and flap, along with a soundboard painting in the appropriate style. A tortoise shell finish on the case and lid exterior completed the effect of a large German style instrument of the eighteenth century.

Above, images of the Herz redecoration and a detail of the chinoiserie on the flap interior.
A French double by William Hyman, for many years in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, recently came to our Rehoboth showroom. You can see images and read more by clicking here.

Double by William Hyman, Hoboken, 1969.
On November 16, 2006, Boston's Harvard Musical Association recreated a recital that it had originally hosted in 1915, when Arnold and Mabel Dolmetsch played keyboard and bowed string instruments, along with Charles W. Adams on the harpsichord. For this recreation Harpsichord Clearing House supplied a Dolmetsch-Chickering harpsichord recently restored for a client in Kentucky. We also sent along a Dolmetsch-Chickering clavichord which will be on view at the 2007 Boston Early Music Festival. Peter Sykes played keyboards at the event (including his own Dolmetsch-Chickering clavichord) along with Marcus Thompson on viola d'amore and Laura Jeppesen playing a viola da gamba.
